Brown & Newirth: Behind the Scenes

When a colleague and I were asked if we wanted to attend Brown and Newirth’s headquarters and workshop it was quite clear we would jump at the opportunity and jump we did.

Historically, Brown and Newirth was founded in 1967 and traded engagement rings within Hatton Garden. This was the original cornerstone of the business however by the early 1970s Brown and Newirth had become the largest U.K. supplier of wedding rings and still is today.

The experience of buying wedding rings is like no other. From the perfect dress to the venue and highlighting the ideal setting, wedding rings are the permanent reminder of that special day. And with that it is wonderful to see that Brown and Newirth are a step above the rest when it comes to customer satisfaction. The offer of a lifetime guarantee and complimentary engraving, sizing and refinishes is certainly evidence of a company that understands the important and nature of such occasions.

Brown and Newirth’s workshop highlighted a unique story of the creation of wedding bands. The wedding bands in question are interestingly not cast but formed through the use of ‘doughnuts’. It is only one of two companies that create their rings with this process in Europe.

The process involves a sheet of metal that is cut into individual washers. The washers are then rolled inside out to make trays of doughnuts. They then are separated into plain, pattern or diamond set doughnuts. The technique that Brown and Newirth have adopted allows for no porosity to occur within the ring. Moreover, rings can also be designed with a Computer Numerical Control via CADAQUAS too.

Overall, Brown and Newirth have set the standard high when it comes to understanding arguably the most important purchase of your lifetime. It is wonderful to be part of their story and we’re proud to claim that we housed their first boutique.
