The cut of the diamond refers to 2 things. Firstly the shape. There are several shapes of diamonds, the most familiar being the round brilliant cut, with 57 facets, and designed to maximise the brilliance and sparkle of the diamond. There is also Emerald Cut, Radiant, and Ascher, which are all rectangular, Princess Cut which is Square, Oval, Pear Shape, and Marquise. Secondly, Cut can refer to the way in which a stone has been cut. Each style of cut has perfect proportions which make sure the diamond is cut to make it reflect as much light as possible. If it is too shallow or deep, the diamond will not sparkle as much.
